Dirt Fish

Oh boy!  Oh boy!  Oh boy!  Today.  Was.  So.  FUN!!!!!

Fostermomma went out this morning for "working brunch" (something about making so I can be safe in On-Scario) and when she got back, she loaded me up in the mobile *seatbelts everyone* and off we went to a place with lots of dirt and 2 new GIRLfriends!

I'd tell you all about it, but when we got home fostermomma said I was filthy and kerplunked me in the tub again, and now I'm exhausted, so I ask fostermomma to share some pictures.

And go!

Play With Your Food

Food dispensing toys are a great way to keep a busy dog occupied and slow down dogs that gobble their food.  The unpredictable movements can keep your dog engaged, challenge them and can be a source of good mental exercise.
KONG makes a 'wobbler', or you can invest in a 'Tug-A-Jug', but its doesn't even have to be that difficult or expensive.  A simple plastic bottle with a large opening (such as a Gatorade bottle) can be just as useful (just be sure to remove labels, plastics rings and give it a quick wash and dry before using).

SkunkFish has been eating dinner from one for the past few days.  He was a bit apprehensive at first and wasn't quite sure what to make of the whole process, but he's slowly learning (Walrus figured it out in about 30 seconds). Its a pleasure to watch his mind work and figure out the 'game'.

 Whats your dogs favorite toy?

SkunkFish Gets A Bed

So, first of all - we was getting ready for bed last night when fostermomma says "hey SkunkFish, come cuddle for a bit".  I'd put myself right to bed in my crate, but whats a guy gonna say no to cuddles?  So out I went and got up on the people bed (are you kidding me?!?) and fostermomma and I snuggled till she was just about making sleepies.  It wasn't all night, but that was enough for me :)

Now, some super exciting news about some super exciting people that sent some electronical paper to us and fostermomma came home with a brand new, never used, SkunkFish bed of my very own - see?  Seeeeee?!?

It's a little bit country but it has a FISH on it!  Fostermomma's so funny sometimes!

Our next problem you ask?  Brother Walrus likes my bed so much, and saw how much fun I was having on it - that he wants one for his own self.  Fostermomma's gonna have to use some of her own electronical money to get him one, because my SkunkFish bed is only big enough for one of my little selves.

Thank you donar-nators!

Skunk Off!

Hi, its me, Nemo!

I wasn't here long yesterday when fostermomma picked my little self up and kerplunked me in the tub and got me all wet and soapy. It felt good!

Then fostermomma started saying "pee-yew, little fish, you smell like a skunk". The water must have activated my powers.   She tried to ignore it. Even tried to cover it up by baking fresh pumpkin pie cookies for us kids today morning, but it didn't work.

She left for a bit, while I was real good and hung out quiet in my crate. When she came back she kerplunked me right back in that tub and hosed me off again. She used some different soap, but ha! didn't work. You can't un-stink me. I'm a skunk fish after all.

Can you help fostermomma try and un-stink me? How do you un-stink a skunk fish? Fostermomma tried to Google it, but I'm the only one of me - no luck!

Oh and hey, while I have your attention - you see something wrong here? I sure love to cuddle fostermomma on the couch while I drift off to sleep, but then I don't like to cuddle no more and want to sleep all with myself.

I says to fostermomma - "where's the skunk fish bed", but she says the rescue doesn't have any of those. She says I could ask you guys if maybe you know where I can gets one? And maybe if you might want to chip in for one? You see, I lost my wallet somewhere between sleeping in the dirty and getting found.

Tail Wags,
Nemo

Introducing Nemo!

His intake photo, sent to us from the shelter who picked him up as a stray, did him no justice. You can imagine how our hearts lit up when we saw this tiny boy when we showed up at a small rural shelter on a cold Monday night.
Nemo is a 30-something lbs pit bull type dog. He's sweet and wiggly and full of love. So far he's proven to be good with other dogs, house and crate trained, a super snuggler and just as close to perfect as they come. We cannot wait to see him blossom and shine in foster care!

Pupdate: Winnie

It's been a couple weeks since Winnie's big adventure in her magic crate! Her travel plans went off without a hitch, and within a few short hours she landed safely to start her new beginnings on Canada's east coast!

Winnie met her new foster sister Daisy and even though there have been a few bumps in the road between the two girls, things are going well now. Supervised play sessions and side by side training has done wonders to teach the girls how to behave around one another.

Winnie is having the time of her life with her new foster family and her foster mom and dad have plans to start training with Winnie and her foster sister REAL soon! We just LOVE when foster families want to take that next step with their dogs!

Teleportation Device

Listen to this craziness! Fostermomma says I'm going on a big adventure tomorrow and we probably won't see each other again for a little while - WAH?!? She says that big blue box behind me, my teleportation device, is going to take me to a place called the "East Coast" where there's a lot of water and I won't have to wear that stupid Lector thing on my pretty face anymore.

She says I'm going to meet and live with, some really nice people and I'm gonna have a foster (forever?) sister who's my age and more my speed. I like the sounds of that!

I thought I should inspect my magic crate before signing any paperwork agreeing to all this. BUT, then I got a better idea - send the Walrus instead. Can never be too safe with these things, ya know?

Smelt a little "off", but nothing bad happened.

So, I gave it a shot myself - except this time fostermomma shut the door and fed me cookies. I didnt mind that much - she makes a mean PB cookie!

The Walrus got cookies too.

I'm going to miss fostermomma and The Walrus, but am even more excited for my new beginnings! Can't wait to meet my new friends and family!!!

This is Winnie, signing off - over and out!

Fashion Family Funday

This isn't happening. It can't be happening. I'm so embarrassed.  Momma had cookies and Winnie fell for it!  She'll never learn...

It's happening, Walrus - just go with it. Don't you think I look pretty?  Pretty in pink.  Its my favorite color and this scarf is so soft.  I feel like a lady!

Alright, I'll pose - you get 5 shots - don't waste 'em!  And, I want double however many cookies you're paying her.  I still can't believe this...

Strike a pose.  We be stylin'.

Interior Design

Winnie tends to get bored rather easialy, especially when no one is watching. Sometimes she steals toilet paper rolls and clothes. This morning, she did this!

The chair is usually in the corner of the room.

She was mighty proud of herself...

Sitting proudly on our recently relocated throne.

Must See Movie: Beyond The Myth

Yesterday afternoon, amongst friends, pit bull advocates and lovers, I sat down at the Hyland Theater in London to watch the screening of Beyond The Myth. Produced by "Cover Y'All Productions", Beyond the Myth (from the website) is a film about pit bulls and those who love and defend the breed. It explores the contributing factors behind the public's generalized fear of pit bulls and examines the conflict existing between advocates and opponents of Breed Specific Legislation (BSL). It also investigates the myths associated with the breed and asks the question, "What exactly is a pit bull"? Beyond the Myth challenges the idea that pit bulls are inherently vicious and goes one-on-one with people on both sides of this controversial issue.

Watch the trailer.

The film was eye opening and heartbreaking - I think we all shed a few tears. Sometimes our messages get lost in our emotions, but the film did a good job of remaining factual and educational. The film exposes media bias and challenged perceptions.

I left the theater inspired to do more. Anyone who loves dogs, and anyone who is in favor of BSL, should see this movie.

Welcome to the ADR Family, Maurice!

This is Moe (Maurice, if we're being formal)!

Moe's former owners called a shelter late at night and left a message that they couldn't keep him anymore. Shelter staff found Moe abandoned in their outdoor enclosure the following morning. Can you believe it?

At first, Moe was confused and withdrawn, but shelter staff nursed his broken soul back to health. Moe now spends his days on his bed in the office making bad smells.

Moe passed his assessment with flying colors and we couldn't be happier to welcome him to the family!

This old man has a lot of life left in him and we're going to make sure he spends it well!
